La Ciutat del Mar

Through the perspective of two young individuals (her, a journalist, and him, a musician), we will uncover an utterly innovative and avant-garde Barcelona in the 13th and 14th centuries. This era marked the destiny of the new Catalonia, more entrepreneurial and commercial, contributing to two precapitalist structures that rendered feudal practices obsolete. The groundbreaking maritime laws of the “Consolat de Mar,” the emergence of Europe’s first public bank, “La Taula de Canvi,” and the laws of “Pau i Treva.” The documentary transports us to the present due to the similarity with the transformative and innovative moments we are currently experiencing.
